The Network Economics of Community Spend at Scale

Each Civic Partner holds a relational portfolio of 25–100 individuals: students, congregants, audiences, clients. When aligned with local commerce, this creates a distributed micro-marketplace, rooted in authenticity and trust.

The Relational Portfolio is the number of people a Civic Partner interacts with regularly through their role in the community. This includes customers, students, event attendees, or neighbors they serve directly. When we aggregate those connections across all partners, we get the Community Size.

Next, we calculate the Local Spending Pool (LSP), an estimate of how much disposable income those individuals could spend locally at MODA Vi Establishments. The Weekly LSP Spend breaks that down into a weekly figure, calibrated to reflect a level of spending that can be spent locally without affecting their finances.

"This is not consumer behavior. It is intentional economic circulation, architected by network spend."

Sunflower Arcade Lounge, New York City

Sunflower Arcade Lounge, New York City

MODA Vi was brought in to help a lifestyle accessory store make better use of its space, leading to the launch of a comedy club in the basement. The club quickly became the top-rated comedy venue in New York City, drawing packed crowds and famous talent. Its success led the owner to close the shop and focus fully on comedy, with a full-scale venue set to open in Manhattan in 2026.

Opportunity Overview

Across every city, there are thousands of organizations, co-ops, offices, schools, cultural institutions, regularly spending money on local services. Most of that money goes straight to chains.

MODA Vi intercepts that spending and redirects it to independent businesses nearby.

We build the link between local demand and local supply, so when a co-op needs catering, or a company needs coffee for 20, a neighborhood shop gets the order.

This is capital that's already moving, MODA Vi just changes where it lands.

Case Study: Edinburgh Fringe Festival

In 1947, eight theatre groups arrived in Edinburgh to perform, uninvited.

They weren't part of the official Edinburgh International Festival. They didn't have major venues, sponsors, or institutional support. But they found their own way.

They booked performances in basements, back rooms, and borrowed storefronts. Churches lent them space. Bars opened earlier. Shop windows turned into poster walls. These weren't "venues" in the traditional sense. They were civic spaces, already there, already open, repurposed into a public stage.

Tightrope Attention in a Public Setting

Tightrope Attention in a Public Setting

One performer. Three pins. Dozens of strangers holding their breath. In dense urban environments, shared awe builds community faster than ads ever could.

The model caught on.

By the 1950s, the "Fringe" had become a known force, spontaneous, grassroots, and profitable. Local businesses started adapting intentionally.

• Pubs offered venue packages.

• Coffee shops timed service around showtimes.

• Bookstores hosted late-night poetry readings.

These weren't just cultural gestures. They were smart revenue decisions.

By transforming everyday space into performance space, Edinburgh unlocked a new kind of economic engine, one rooted in visibility, foot traffic, and shared momentum.

Today, the Fringe generates over £250 million in annual economic impact for the city, much of it flowing through small businesses.

In every city, there are organizations, co-ops, offices, schools, cultural groups, spending thousands every month on food, venues, gifts, and services.

No. We encourage each business to offer terms that feel sustainable and generous. You're not required to give a discount. But we do recommend crafting a gesture that makes the people you're connecting with feel like they've received preferential treatment—whether that's a small perk, a bundle, or a behind-the-scenes experience.
